Abbreviations in Crochet

Are you new to reading patterns? Feel like it’s in a different language? Well! Here’s a quick reference to help “decode” patterns.

()/[]= usu. means stitches within the parenthesis should all go into the same stitch

*= beginning of a repeated sequence

beg=beginning

ch=chain

dc=double crochet

dec=decrease

dtr= double treble crochet

FO= finish off

fpdc=front post double crochet

fpsc=front post single crochet

frptr=front post treble crochet

hdc= half-double crochet

inc=increase

MC=Main Color

rem=remaining

rep=repeat

rnd(s)= round(s)

RS=Right Side

sc= single crochet

sl st=slip stitch

sp(s)=spaces

st(s)=stitch(es)

tog=together

tr= treble crochet

trtr=triple treble

WS=Wrong Side

yoh=yarn over hook
